Welcome to the Ice Freestyle Battle – Your Style, Your Battle!

The Battle Contest is a sporting competition in Ice Freestyle, where ice skaters compete against each other in direct duels. It combines figure skating, breakdance, hip-hop, and acrobatics on skates.

Here are the most important features of the competition:

What Makes the Battle Contest Special

  • 60-second performance: Show what you have rehearsed or freestyle to a song of your choice.
  • Battle in a knockout system: The 16 best participants from the 60-second performance compete in knockout rounds for the win.
  • The jury decides: A panel of experts evaluates the performance and determines who advances to the next round.

Evaluation

The evaluation is conducted by a panel of judges for both the 60-second performance and the knockout (K.O.) system.

The 60-second performance is rated on a scale from 0 to 10 points. The 16 participants with the highest scores will then compete against each other in the knockout system.

The knockout round is evaluated by three or five judges, ensuring a clear and unambiguous decision after two rounds (first leg and second leg / back-to-back rounds) for each battle. Judging is done exclusively via hand signs for one candidate or the other. Draws are not permitted.

The jury consists of experienced judges with a background in figure skating and ice freestyle. Each judge provides an overall rating of the performance and justifies it based on several categories.

Key accents the jury pays attention to include, among others:

  • Jumps & Acrobatics: Handstands, butterflies, or backflips—it all counts here. What matters most is a secure execution that fits seamlessly into the overall performance.
  • Footwork: Fast, slow, simple, or complex step sequences. The most widespread form of expression. Above all, variety, creativity, and execution count here.
  • Musicality: Does the performance fit the music? This can determine whether the performance captivates the audience and the jury, and whether you can win the battle for yourselves.
